The grand old showman and idol of millions of American boys, Buffalo Bill Cody, would have felt honored last night had he been in the Theater of the Red Rocks.

Despite mixups in the handling of traffic - situations that elicited booing by the throng - a near capacity crowd gathered in the theater for the last of a summer long series of programs honoring the memory of Buffalo Bill, who died in 1917.

Boos Greet Cranmer
George E. Cranmer, Denver manger of parks, was booed loudly when he appeared on the lighted stage.

Apparently, this was because of the crowd's ill humor over the handing of traffic and a lack of cleanliness in the theater, which was being used for the second time since its completion shortly before the war.

The booing subsided when Mayor Stapleton stepped to the stage to greet the throng. He received a round of applause that echoed off towering Creation Rock, one of the monster formations that form the walls of the unique outdoor auditorium.

Theater's Second Crowd
The musical program given by the Denver Municipal Band, led by Henry Sachs, was of Western motif. The popular Koshare dancers from La Junta thrilled the crowd with their colorful Indian dances.

This was the second time the great natural theater has been used for entertainment. The crowd was but slightly smaller, observers reckoned, than when one session of the convention of Rotary International met beneath the giant rocks in 1941.

In honoring the 100th birthday of Colonel Cody, Denverites paid homage to perhaps the most widely known of Western scouts. Thousands of tourists visit his grave on lofty Lookout Mountain, and seek reading matter on the gallant old character in Denver libraries. It is planned to hold "Buffalo Bill Week" annually.
