Koshare Club Cuts Birthday Cake at Lions
A huge, Candle-lit birthday cake was cut at the regular noon luncheon of the La Junta Lions Club Tueday noon when 32 members of the Koshare Club of Indian dancers met with the Lions in observance of the Koshare birthday.
The occasion marked the 23rd anniversary of scouting in La Junta and the 11th anniversary of the Koshare club. The cake, three feet long and two feet wide, was decorated with the Koshare club symbol and 11 large candles and 23 smaller candles.
Buck Burshears introduced chiefs of the club who gave short talks concerning the activities of their respective groups. Jim Wilson, head chief, spoke as did Garth Conroe, Sioux chief, Dean Hurt, Caddoa chief and Doorn Christian, Kiowa chief.
Bill Cash told the Lions details of the Koshare club's recent trip to the Canon City Abbey.
Lee Walters was presented with the Eagle Scout neckerchief by J. H. Humphries.
