Letter From Ernesto Zepeda

One of the 178 oil paintings donated to the museum by Zepeda
Santa Fe, New Mexico – August 12, 2007

My greatest pride for the last 30 years has been to have participated with the museum. “Buck” and his generosity found some talent in my work and I always have felt that his insight was extremely acute.

I’m donating this sketches studies charcoals, pastel which most of them were made in the fields from life.

Some are good, some fair, and some should be trashed.

My desire is to give this work so that the best could be shown and sold and any moneys to go to the “Brats”.

The charcoals I have sold for $300 each; large paintings for $4-5 thousand and the middle size for around $800.

There are a few faces [that are] portrayals of Buck’s friends. Someone should varnish the best ones and frame them.

I have at least 200 people in La Junta that own my work. Please accept these works as appreciation for the interest that the people of La Junta and the Museum have shown to me for the last 30 years.

Sincerely,

Ernesto Zepeda
