Frequently Asked Questions
I stayed in the Koshare Kiva when I was a scout/student and I am wondering if groups are able to stay in the Koshare Kiva?
Yes, over 5,000 scout and school groups continue to find the Koshare Kiva a wonderful and unique overnight experience. Download the hostel forms or fill out a hostel form online and we will contact you about your reservations.
Will the Koshare Indian Museum purchase my artwork or artifacts?
Yes, from time to time the Koshare Indian Museum will purchase original pieces of artwork and historic artifacts. However, we do get several offers each year and cannot buy everything we see. If you are interested in selling your artwork or artifacts to the museum please contact us with a price and item description. All contacts will go before the Museum Board of Directors.
Can the Koshare Indian Museum conduct an appraisal?
No, because the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) questions appraisals prepared by libraries and museums due to potential conflicts of interest, we do not conduct appraisals. For names of qualified appraisers contact the International Society of Appraisers at (206) 241-0359.
How many shows do the Koshares do per year?
The Koshares perform an average of sixty to eighty shows per year at home and on the road.
I had a relative who was once a Koshare how can I find information or pictures of that person?
One of the goals of this website is get all archival material online and identified. The best place to start is on this website by doing a keyword search for that person. You can also contact us with a name and high school graduation year and we will keep an eye out for information on that person. However, archives is organized through the help of voulunteers and much of their time is based on preservation, so much patience must be granted for information to be located.
Can I donate a book?
Yes, the Koshares have a large research library consisting of over 5,000 rare, first-edition and out-of-print books. The Koshare Indian Dancers use this library as a source for much of their research on Native American culture and crafts. The Koshares benefit much from books pertaining to Native American Lore, leadership lessons, art and wilderness exploration. If you are interested in donating a book that you believe will help the KIDs program mail books to: The Koshare Indian Museum; P.O. Box 580; La Junta, CO 81050.
